If you live in the United States, Canada, the UK or Western Europe, you have probably been quoted a price for implants, crowns or veneers that made you think twice. That is why every year thousands of patients travel to Colombia — and especially to Medellín — for dental treatment.

This guide gives you real 2026 reference prices from our clinic, Bocas y Risas, a dental clinic with over 30 years of experience in Medellín, converted to US dollars and euros and compared with typical prices abroad. No vague "save up to 80%" claims: just numbers you can use to plan.

Dental prices in Colombia vs the USA and Europe (2026)

The table below compares our reference ranges in Medellín with commonly published price ranges in the US and Western Europe. Prices abroad vary a lot by city and dentist, so treat them as a general benchmark.

TreatmentMedellín (Bocas y Risas)USA (typical)Western Europe / UK (typical)
Dental implant + crown (single tooth)≈ USD 1,100–1,500USD 3,000–6,000€2,000–4,000
Porcelain veneer (per tooth)≈ USD 200–625USD 1,000–2,500€600–1,500
Smile makeover (8–10 teeth)≈ USD 1,000–5,000USD 10,000–25,000€6,000–15,000

Professional teeth whitening≈ USD 75–200USD 500–1,000€300–700

Our prices are set in Colombian pesos (COP). Conversions use an approximate rate of 1 USD ≈ 4,000 COP and 1 EUR ≈ 4,500 COP, so the final amount in your currency moves slightly with the exchange rate. Your exact price depends on the evaluation of your case.

Why is dental work so much cheaper in Colombia?

The difference is not about cutting corners. These are the main reasons:

  • Lower operating costs: rent, staff salaries and malpractice insurance cost far less in Colombia than in the US or Northern Europe.
  • Favorable exchange rate: the Colombian peso is weaker than the dollar, euro and pound, so your money goes further.
  • Same international materials: implant brands, zirconia and porcelain used in Colombia are the same ones used in the US and Europe.
  • In-house dental lab: at Bocas y Risas we have our own dental laboratory, which cuts intermediary costs and turnaround times for crowns and veneers.
⚠️ The cheapest quote is not always the best deal

A price far below these ranges usually means an unknown implant brand, no 3D planning or shortcuts in sterilization. Fixing a failed treatment back home costs much more than doing it right the first time.

The real total cost: treatment + trip

To compare honestly, you have to add travel expenses. A realistic example for a patient from Florida who needs two dental implants:

ConceptApproximate cost
2 implants with crowns in MedellínUSD 2,200–3,000
2 round-trip flights (implants usually need two visits)USD 600–1,400
Hotel, about 12 nights in totalUSD 700–1,400
Food and local transportUSD 300–500
Total in Colombia≈ USD 3,800–6,300
Same treatment in the USA≈ USD 6,000–12,000

The more treatment you need, the bigger the savings, because travel costs stay almost the same while treatment costs multiply. For a single whitening session the trip is rarely worth it on price alone; for implants, crowns or a full smile makeover it usually is.

How many days do you need to stay in Medellín?

  • Whitening or cleaning: 1–2 days.
  • Composite micro smile design: usually 2–4 days.
  • Porcelain veneers or crowns: usually 7–10 business days, including design, lab work and final placement.
  • Dental implants: two trips. The first (about 5–7 days) to place the implant, then 3–6 months of healing at home, and a second trip (about 5–7 days) for the final crown.

Your treatment plan will include an exact schedule so you can book flights and accommodation with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much cheaper is dental work in Colombia than in the USA?

For most treatments, patients pay roughly 50% to 75% less in Colombia than in the United States. A complete dental implant with crown costs about USD 1,100–1,500 at our clinic in Medellín, compared with a typical USD 3,000–6,000 in the US.

Is the quality of dental work in Colombia lower because it is cheaper?

Not necessarily. Prices are lower mainly because rent, salaries and the cost of living in Colombia are lower and the exchange rate favors foreign currencies. Implant brands, zirconia and porcelain are the same international materials. What matters is choosing a clinic that plans with 3D imaging, uses recognized brands and gives you a detailed written quote.

Do I need to speak Spanish to get dental treatment in Medellín?

No. At Bocas y Risas we communicate in English by WhatsApp and email, and we send your treatment plan and quote in English before you travel.
