A single dental implant in the United States typically costs between USD 3,000 and 6,000, and in the UK or Northern Europe it is not much cheaper. That is why dental implants are the number one reason international patients travel to Medellín, Colombia.

In this guide we compare real 2026 implant prices at our clinic, Bocas y Risas, with prices in the US and Europe, explain what is included, and show how to plan the trip — including the part many clinics don't mention: implants usually require two visits.

Dental implant cost: Colombia vs USA, UK and Europe

CountrySingle implant + crown (typical)
Medellín, Colombia (Bocas y Risas)≈ USD 1,100–1,500 / €1,000–1,350
United StatesUSD 3,000–6,000
CanadaUSD 2,500–4,500
United Kingdom£2,000–3,000
Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Scandinavia€2,000–4,000+

Prices outside Colombia are commonly published ranges and vary by city and dentist. Our price is set in pesos — 4.5 to 6 million COP for a complete implant — so the amount in dollars or euros moves slightly with the exchange rate.

What is included in the price

When comparing quotes, make sure you are comparing the same thing. A complete implant has three parts:

ComponentMedellín reference price
Implant + surgical placement≈ USD 550–750
Abutment + final crown≈ USD 625–750
Complete implant≈ USD 1,100–1,500

Many advertised "USD 500 implants" only include the screw — not the crown that you actually see and chew with. Always ask for a written quote that lists the implant, abutment, crown and any imaging.

What can make the price go up

  • Bone grafting or sinus lift: if the 3D scan shows there is not enough bone, a graft is needed first.
  • Implant brand: brands with long-term clinical research cost more, but have more predictable results.
  • Crown material: zirconia costs more than porcelain fused to metal, but looks more natural.
  • Number of implants: several missing teeth or a full arch use a different structure (implant bridge or full-arch prosthesis), and the price is quoted case by case.

Timeline: why you usually need two trips

After an implant is placed, the bone needs time to bond to it (osseointegration). This is how a typical international patient plan looks:

  1. Trip 1 (about 5–7 days): clinical exam, 3D tomography, implant placement and post-op check.
  2. Healing at home (3–6 months): you go back to your normal life. We follow up remotely.
  3. Trip 2 (about 5–7 days): impressions, final crown made in our in-house lab, and placement.

In selected cases with good bone quality, immediate loading allows us to place a provisional tooth on the first trip, so you don't go home with a gap.

Is it really worth it? A realistic example

For a patient from the US who needs two implants, treatment in Medellín costs about USD 2,200–3,000. Adding two round trips, hotel and expenses, the total is around USD 3,800–6,300, compared with USD 6,000–12,000 for the same treatment at home. With three or more implants, the savings grow considerably, because travel costs stay the same.

⚠️ Questions to ask any clinic before you travel

Which implant brand do you use? Is a 3D tomography included? Does the price include the abutment and crown? Who places the implant and what is their experience? How is follow-up handled after I return home?

At Bocas y Risas in Medellín, a complete dental implant (titanium implant, abutment and crown) costs between 4.5 and 6 million Colombian pesos, about USD 1,100–1,500 or €1,000–1,350, depending on the implant brand, crown material and whether bone grafting is needed.

How much can I save on dental implants in Colombia compared with the USA?

A single implant with crown typically costs USD 3,000–6,000 in the United States. In Medellín it costs about USD 1,100–1,500, so most patients save 50% to 75% on treatment, before travel costs.

How many trips do I need for dental implants in Colombia?

Usually two. On the first trip (about 5–7 days) the implant is placed. After 3 to 6 months of healing at home, a second trip of about 5–7 days is needed to place the final crown. In some cases immediate loading allows a provisional tooth on the first trip.

Are dental implants in Colombia safe?
